Garden City Public Schools is proud to announce that Abe Hubert Elementary School first-grade teacher Addyson Bjurstrom has been named the district’s elementary nominee for the Kansas Horizon Award Program.

The Kansas Horizon Award Program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, identifies and recognizes representatives of excellent teaching in classrooms across the state. The mission of the program is to recognize exemplary first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding.

Kansas community college graduates, your path to a Criminal Justice bachelor’s degree just got clearer. Through Newman University’s new agreement with the Kansas Association of Community Colleges, eligible students can finish a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in as few as 12 months of full-time study. Students can transfer up to 60 hours with an associate degree, earn up to 30 hours for prior learning, and complete the final credits through Newman with online and hybrid options. Every eligible student also receives a $20,000 Newman Scholarship.

Vanessa Mota is currently enrolled in the Agricultural Technology Management Program. Here is what she has to say:

“Hello, my name is Vanessa Mota! I started my time at Newman a year ago with my studies being Agricultural Technology Management. Thanks to Newmans partnerships with Garden City Community College, this experience would not have been possible for me as a full-time employee and having family to take care of. My experience has been nothing more than wonderful due to the help provided by Newman.
My classes have been flexible with the hybrid courses. Even though they are hybrid courses, it is nice to know that I would be able to meet my professors in person for extra help with assignments. The Ag Tech Management Program has a wide variety of agricultural courses, which is something that I have been liking and have been looking forward to experiencing. Currently, this fall semester I am excited to be taking Agriculture Marketing and Sales and Environmental Resources in Agriculture, I’m also looking forward to using the Mobile Ag Lab!
With all the amazing resources Newman has provided, I'm looking to advance my career further and continue my studies.”
