Monica Mayer is a feminist artist from Mexico City who's work focuses on the intersections between artistic practice and feminist activism, political art, and transnational connection. Her work includes performance, digital graphics, drawing, photography and art theory.
Each year the Criminal Justice Program and Club hosts the Clothesline Project on campus, bringing attention to gender and sexuality-based violence in the US and around the globe. In the course of doing research for the Artivism Initiative, the teame came across Monica's earlier work in Mexico City, which preceded the US Clotheline Project's incarnation by over a decade! This year, in an effort to acknowledge Monica's inspirational work, Adelphi's Clothesline Project will include an homage to the original "Clotheline" in Mexico City.
