Please join us in welcoming our new Residency Coordinator, Wadiah Mohammad, to Arrowmont! đ
Wadiah grew up between Long Island and Malaysia (her dad is from Singapore and her mom is from Indonesia), and she holds a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts from SUNY Purchase College. While her degree focused heavily on the intersection of code and art, she has a deep love for traditional craftâitâs how she likes to stay connected to her heritage.
After spending years in NYC working random gigs and teaching afterschool art, Wadiah started exploring creative communities outside the city. Working at places like Chautauqua Visual Arts and Haystack completely changed her trajectory. She saw firsthand how vital it is for artists to have dedicated time to create in a community setting, which led her straight to arts administration and education.
"Since itâs a new position, I am excited to help shape it. I hope to solidify this role and learn more about how I can best fulfill the needs of our Artists-In-Residence and Workstudy students."
We are so excited to have her here! đ¤
