The Georgetown College Maskrafters are staging a collection of creepy, classic literary works for this Halloween season. The hour-long production features stories and poems by Saki, Ellen Glasgow, W.W. Jacobs, Walter de la Mare, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and, of course, Edgar Allen Poe. Music recorded by the Georgetown College choirs will add to the atmosphere.

This show is for anyone who relishes a spine-tingling story of ghosts, curses, and misspent wishes told by candlelight.

Recently, 16 students experienced an outdoor leadership trip to North Carolina and Tennessee, led by Dean of Students Bryan Langlands.

They climbed Grandfather Mountain and reached the summit of Calloway Peak at 5,946 feet, the highest point in the Blue Ridge Mountains. From there, they hiked the ridge trail to the Mile High Swinging Bridge. To finish the excursion, they took on the Ocoee River's whitewater in Tennessee.

Along the way, students read about and discussed vocation. Nothing sparks a good conversation about calling and purpose like a hard climb and a few rapids.

This week marks 20 years since Georgetown College lost two alumni, Lauren Fannin and Lindsey Harp, both members of KD Beta Lambda, who died in Lexington's historic 2006 flash flood.

Lauren and Lindsey carried their Georgetown bond with them as they pursued careers in nursing and pharmacy. Two decades later, their memory is still very much alive at Georgetown College and in the memorial scholarship that continues to help our students chase the same kind of futures Lauren and Lindsey were building.

If you'd like to honor their memory, you can make a gift to the Lauren Fannin and Lindsey Harp Memorial Scholarship at the link in the comments.

It has been 20 years since flash flooding in Lexington killed two young women, in what WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey calls the worst flash flooding the city has seen in modern history.

More on how it is being remembered: https://www.wkyt.com/2026/09/22/two-decades-after-tragedy-lexingtons-worst-flash-flood-modern-history-still-shapes-city/
