Rowan University Percussion The official page of the Rowan University Percussion studio Each week students get private instruction on marimba, timpani, and snare drum.

The percussion studies program at Rowan University is a multi-faceted traditional percussion program that offers instruction in all of the classical percussion instruments, jazz, rock, Latin, Broadway and much more. Weekly masterclasses on Wednesday’s offers group instruction on drum set, triangle, cymbals, tambourine etc. Typically some of the masterclasses will be devoted to working on the liter

ature selected by the various ensemble directors, such as the Wind Ensemble or University Orchestra. Twice each semester, Associate Principal Percussionist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Anthony Orlando, works with all of the students on selected topics. Additional clinics and masterclasses are offered every semester from notable drum set artists, orchestral master percussionists, Latin percussionists, to tabla players and much more. Students in percussion can major in music performance, music education, jazz studies (performance or education), composition or enroll in the BA program for a liberal arts education plus percussion. Students can also minor in music from any other major as well. All students in the percussion studio study with Professor Dean Witten and get to perform with the percussion ensemble, a celebrated musical ensemble at Rowan University.

Awesome masterclass with Philadelphia Orchestra percussionist, Tony Orlando. Ethan Scully and the maestro playing Ravel's Bolero. Does it get any better than this? I don't think so!!!

Congratulations to Rowan MM alumna (2006) Mika Godbole for her Grammy nomination (see Lloyd: Bonhoeffer below). WOW, I am so proud of her and now she brings a bit of her luster to our percussion history here at Rowan University. Way to go Mika!!

Rowan percussion sophomore, Garrett Davis, performed Gene Koshinski's Concerto for Marimba and Choir, in my masterclass yesterday. With the performance in early March, Garrett is right on schedule to knock this piece out of the park!! (baseball reference because spring training is right around the corner)

Justin Alexander talking with Rowan percussion students on Wednesday 12/7 before the world premiere of Adam Silverman's new drumset concerto and 12/9 Philadelphia Orchestra percussionist Tony Orlando teaching a class on Tchaikovsky 4th Symphony. The students were awesome throughout the whole week of demanding concerts and clinics. They are the best of the best!!!!
