From summer research to the Cesium Developer Conference in Philadelphia 👏

Rowan Computer Science senior Evangelia Tonelli spent the summer building her skills in AI, computer graphics and interactive technologies through Rowan’s Summer Research Program, working under the guidance of Professor Rich Rabbitz on an AI-powered MetaHuman virtual patient for nursing education.

She also joined fellow Rowan Computer Science students at the 2026 Cesium Developer Conference, connecting with professionals and exploring the latest in computer graphics, visualization and geospatial technology.

We love seeing our students take what they’re learning beyond the classroom. Congratulations on a great summer, Evangelia!

Congratulations to Dr. Dani Arigo and the CHASE Lab in Rowan University’s Department of Psychology on receiving a $450,000 NIH award to support a new three-year study focused on women’s health during midlife.

The study will explore how peer partnerships and behavioral coaching can help women ages 40–65 support one another in maintaining physical activity during a stage of life often shaped by work, caregiving, menopause, and increased cardiovascular health risks.

The work is part of Project WHADE (Women’s Health and Daily Experiences) and includes collaboration with Dr. Andrea Lobo (Rowan Computer Science), community partners, and Family Medicine teams at Inspira, Cooper, and Rowan-Virtua SOM.

With a new semester about to begin, recent psychology graduate Sapjah Zapotitla has some advice for the students walking onto campus this fall:

“Get involved, share your voice, and make an impact. If you can’t find your people/community, then make your own.”

Sapjah certainly did. During her time at Rowan, she competed as a wrestler, studied abroad in Spain and was recognized for her leadership and commitment to social justice.

Here’s to finding your people, trying something new and making this semester your own. 💛

Francis Lopez’s path to graduation wasn’t always straightforward, and that’s part of what makes reaching this moment so meaningful.

Before transferring to Rowan from RCBC, Francis had already gotten to know campus through the C.H.A.M.P. Gear Up program. That early connection helped make Rowan feel familiar when it came time to continue a college journey here.

Along the way, the psychology major became a member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society and found a direction centered on helping children and families.

“Being unsure of your path does not mean that you are failing or falling behind.”

Now, Francis is continuing an Undergraduate Certificate in Child Life while exploring the next step in that journey.

Congratulations, Francis, and best of luck in what comes next!

Two students. Two very different research questions. One summer spent digging deeper.

We’re proud to see Jimmy Flocco, a geographical information science and philosophy major, and Ava Santiago, a political science and psychology major, among the students featured in Rowan Today’s look at the Martinson Summer Scholars program.

Jimmy explored food access and community resilience, while Ava examined how prison personnel cope with the psychological impacts of capital punishment.
