College of DuPage Field and Experiential Learning/Study Abroad The WORLD is our classroom. Be a fan and find out where we're going and how YOU can join us! Classes are experience based/faculty facilitated.

Field and Experiential Learning is an academic program at COD offering credit courses that combine classroom work with empirical field experience. The instructor's role is largely that of a facilitator who helps learning take place. Courses are grouped into four categories: Weekend and Outdoor, Natural Science, Social Science and Cultural, and International. Classes may be taken in any order or combination. Some students enroll to earn credit toward a degree or certificate; others are interested in learning about or visiting a particular destination. Still others are interested in learning outdoor or wilderness skills. You are welcome, whatever your interests.

We’ve returned from an incredible class exploring Maine’s spectacular coast during fall foliage season! From hiking granite peaks and taking in breathtaking views of the North Atlantic to biking Acadia’s historic carriage roads and paddling along rocky shorelines, we experienced the park from every angle. We even got an up-close look at Maine’s fishing heritage on a traditional Downeast lobster boat excursion! Brilliant fall colors, stone bridges, coastal wildlife, crisp Maine air, and plenty of miles shared on the trail made this a trip to remember. Best of all, we got to experience it together, learning, exploring, and discovering what makes Acadia so special. Another great reminder that some of the best classrooms are found outdoors!

What an incredible week exploring the places where America’s story unfolded! We retraced the footsteps of the American Revolution, hiking Boston’s Freedom Trail and the battlefields of Lexington and Concord to Fort Ticonderoga, Saratoga, Morristown, Valley Forge, and historic Philadelphia.

Along the way, we covered miles of trails, explored historic landmarks, and reflected on the courage, sacrifices, and perseverance that helped shape a nation. Every stop brought another chapter of the Revolution to life, reminding us that these stories are deeply connected to the landscapes we explored.
