Students who request funds from our Emergency Fund often do so as a last resort. They've already donated plasma, borrowed from family/friends, or used up their savings. Often, they are homeless or living in vehicles, faced eviction, lost everything to fire or theft, and weathered shut off notices for utilities.

They often try to pay one expense to keep it current while sacrifice another payment until they get assistance – robbing Peter to pay Paul.

With a worsening economy, emergency fund requests are growing. In July of fiscal year 24, we had 0 emergency fund requests. In July of FY25, it was 4. In FY 26 and FY27, it was 7.
