The philosophy of this office is to serve the students and employees by providing a wide range of services that enhance academic programs. We strive to provide effective communication and understanding between the Student Life area, Leadership Ce
nter, the student clubs and organizations, and the campus employees. Purpose
The purpose of the activities offered by the Office of Student Life & Leadership is to aid in the development of leaders. Involvement in these activities will teach students how to set measurable goals and objectives, manage time, make decisions, solve problems, and motivate and manage people. Student Activities help students in the following ways:
Academic and Intellectual Functions. Student activities reinforce classroom instruction and supplement academic learning. The work of the classroom is guided and directed by the teacher. Student activities are primarily student directed and operated. Student activities allow for an understanding of social and cultural forces that exert pressures on the attitudes, values, and actions of individuals and groups in the college community. Student activities offer students an opportunity for group interactions. Group interactions teach students to learn to live in groups, to organize groups, to conduct meetings, to get along with people, and to exercise responsibility as a member of a group. Student Development Functions. Student activities are designed to prepare students for life in democracy, assist in learning the qualities of leadership and "followership", and to help develop moral courage and foster concern and law and order. Campus and Community-Life Functions. Student activities provide a means of uniting the campus and community by enabling friendly contacts and improved relations between students and faculty, at the same time encouraging interaction among the variety of peoples.
