Join AsuWest Psi Chi in National Compliments Day! Make compliments meaningful, loving, and genuine. Compliments may seem like a simple thing that has no impact on our lives, however, compliments are a powerful tool for our self-esteem, relationships, and mental health. Just as our bodies need a massage after all the constant hard work and use it is put through, our mind, heart, and ego need a message for all the stress and challenges they go through. So please join Psi Chi today in making compliments matter the most. Think about those around you, whether they are strangers, friends, or family and think about what you truly appreciate about that person. Does a stranger's vibrant smile make you smile? Tell them how beautiful their smile is. Is your friend an incredible listener that makes you feel heard, validated, and important? Tell them how amazing they are as a friend and as a person for their empathetic qualities and how much it means to you. Does your family member unconditionally love you or make you laugh? Tell them how much you love their ability to bring happiness, laughter, joy, and love to your life.

We sometimes have a tendency to shut compliments down because of our own insecurities. So try to practice just saying "Thank you" when you are complimented, and reflecting on how the compliment made you feel, and how it is important in your relationship with the person that gave you the compliment.

I challenge you to compliment 10 people today, any method. Email, social media, phone call, text message, in person, handwritten letter or notes, through song or sign language.

You are Amazing, inside and out and no matter how small or large, I appreciate having your bright spirit in my life!

A lot of us have trouble accepting compliments. We're worried that it will make us seem self-absorbed, or we just don't believe that what the person is sayin...

It's National Take a Hike Day! One of the best tools we have to reduce symptoms for a range of mental health ailments such as Depression, ADHD, ADD, Anxiety, and others is Nature (Pearson & Craig, 2014). It's not simply enough to view nature, you must be immersed within nature. Feel the grass under your feet, your hands in the crisp cool rivers, smell the trees, hear the birds, and feel the warmth of the sun on your face. When you are outside your body creates one of the most important vitamins your body needs to maintain optimal health, Vitamin D. Some of the important roles of Vitamin D in your body is:
Maintaining health of bones & teeth, your brain, nervous system, immune system, insulin levels, diabetes management, lung function, cardiovascular health, influencing the expression of genes involved in cancer development and more (Ware, 2017).

So in honor of mental health and National Take a Hike Day, I challenge you to take a moment today to hike through nature or simply talk a walk outside and enjoy the natural world around you. Please share your beautiful hike with us here on this post by sharing a picture of your hike!

How did everyone's finals go? Was it a very stressful time for you?

For many people "tests/exams" immediately spark anxiety and fear. You may even begin to second guess your knowledge and abilities. This is common among a lot of people as our hopes, dreams, goals, fears, worries, and expectations all collide to influence our experience. Here is a great article to help overcome test anxiety from The Princeton Review.

Remember the power of the mind, the art of the self-fulfilling prophecy, your abilities, your strength, your knowledge, and your worth. You can succeed!

Don't let test anxiety derail weeks and months of hard work.

Make stress your friend! Psychologist Kelly McGonigal talks about how our perception of stress dictates the harm or health we experience. While we go through life and our studies we tend to experience a great deal of stress, this may sometimes induce more stress. But next time you feel stress think to yourself that this is your best friend appearing to help you rise to the challenge you are facing. Watch this great video talking about the physiological implications of simply thinking of stress as helpful rather than harmful.

Stress. It makes your heart pound, your breathing quicken and your forehead sweat. But while stress has been made into a public health enemy, new research su...

"As humans, we are blessed to understand who we are..." Tasha Eurich. Are you one of the rare few that is self-aware? Many times we believe we are self-aware and with best intentions at heart and mind, to grow into the best version of ourselves. But are we doing this in a way that is successful and leads us to self-improvement? Many times we reflect on our situations by asking why. Why didn't I get chosen for that position, I have all the skills and qualifications. Why can't we see eye to eye on this issue, maybe we aren't right for each other? Or why are people being so mean? In attempting to understand, we may actually have a defeating method. Watch Dr. Tasha Eurich explain the true method of successful introspection that can lead to a more successful, fulfilled and happy life. Enjoy!

Self-awareness has countless proven benefits -- stronger relationships, higher performance, more effective leadership. Sounds pretty great, right? Here’s the...
