Faculty Spotlight: Priscilla Beck
Gila Community College is proud to highlight Priscilla Beck, an accomplished educator whose passion for art, history, and human connection inspires students both in and out of the classroom. Beck serves as the college's Art History Instructor and Online Psychology Instructor, bringing a unique blend of expertise that enriches the student learning experience.
With more than 11 years of teaching experience, Beck holds a Master's Degree in Art Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. Her interdisciplinary background allows her to help students explore not only the artistic achievements of civilizations throughout history, but also the ways people think, learn, and connect across cultures.
For Beck, art history is much more than the study of paintings, sculptures, monuments, and architecture. She views it as the visual language of the human experience—a powerful lens through which we can better understand history, culture, and ourselves. Through her courses, students discover how artistic expression reflects the ideas, values, and stories that have shaped societies throughout time.
"My passion for art history stems from my belief that art helps us better understand history, culture, and ourselves," Beck explains. "Art is a universal language that connects us across cultures, time periods, and experiences."
Outside the classroom, Beck enjoys spending time with her family and pursuing her own artistic interests through drawing and painting. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she also enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, and traveling—especially when those adventures provide opportunities to experience different cultures and explore the history of civilizations firsthand.
Whether teaching Art History or Psychology, Beck is dedicated to creating meaningful learning experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and personal growth. She looks forward to helping students discover the connections between art, history, culture, and the shared experiences that unite us all.
