Taking Calculus 1 online over the summer is a great way to build a solid foundation before your other classes get more intense.

In this video, Ethan explains why he recommends the course. Since it's online, you can work at your own pace and really focus on the basics. He also mentions that Professor Christian Westhoff is great about answering questions quickly and thoroughly, so you won't feel like you're on your own just because it’s a remote class.

Getting this credit out of the way now means one less thing to worry about during your first full semester on campus.

The course runs from June 29 to August 7. It’s a good chance to check a major requirement off your list early.

Summer classes have already started and that means Calculus 2 is in session. If you are still wanting to take Calculus 2 over the summer, be sure to sign up for Summer 2. Fully online, you will get the flexibility to get a jump start on your learning here at Colorado School of Mines.

📅 Housing Application Phase 2: May 18 – June 8

Oredigger parents, here’s an update to help your students navigate the next step of the housing process. During Phase 2, students will return to their housing application to begin the roommate search process. Creating a roommate profile is required, but actually selecting a roommate is completely optional.

During Phase 2, students will:
• Create their roommate profile (required)
• Learn how the roommate search system works
• Learn how to create a Roommate Group for room selection

If students choose to form a Roommate Group, the entire group will receive the same Room Selection Time Slot, based on the earliest Admissions Enrollment Deposit date within the group. Each group will also have a Group Leader who will select room assignments for everyone during Room Selection.

Getting Calculus 1 done over the summer isn't just about the math. It’s actually a great way to get used to how things work at Mines before the fall rush starts.

In this video, Genevieve talks about how taking the course early helped her learn the systems we use, like Canvas, and gave her a head start on managing her time. Plus, having a smaller class size means you get to know professors like Dr. Westhoff, who is known for helping students succeed in the math department.

It’s also a nice way to potentially boost your GPA before your first full semester.

If your student is heading to Mines this fall, they might want to get Calculus 1 out of the way before the semester even starts.

We’re offering an online summer course that begins June 29. It’s a good way to lighten their fall workload and get used to the pace of college math. Here is the thing though: spots fill up fast, so they should probably look into it soon.

🚨HOUSING APPLICAIONS PHASE 1 DUE ON MAY 18 🚨

Phase 1 of the housing application closes on May 18. If you haven't finished that part yet, try to get it done this weekend. Phase 2 starts right after that and runs through June 8. This is the part where you can look for a roommate. You have to fill out a roommate profile, but actually picking a specific person is optional. If you don't pick anyone, we'll just use your profile to match you with someone later.

Here is how it works if you do want to pick a roommate:

You’ll use the system to find people with similar interests.
You can form a "Roommate Group" with one other person.
The person in your group who paid their enrollment deposit first gets to pick the room for both of you.

This helps you get an earlier selection time, which is a nice perk. But again, don't feel pressured to find a best friend by June. Plenty of students go in "blind" and it works out fine.
