The photos and recap video from Montana Tech have been posted to our website. Being a student comes first, so I apologize for the delay. We had a lot of footage to sort through. To recap, the team brought home 1st in First Aid and Bench! We are grateful for the invitation to compete and look forward to future competitions.

Hello all!

It’s been a very eventful month for the team since class began in-person for Fall 2021! We have had a practice every Monday, several weekend practices, and got back from a competition at Montana Tech yesterday night.

We have LOTS of photos to share and I am currently making a recap video. Expect multiple posts in the following weeks!

The CSM Mine Rescue team recently had three of its members complete the Draeger BG4 Level 2 Certification at the Edgar Mine Schoolhouse.

This extensive 2-day course teaches rescue personnel how to disassemble, inspect components, clean, reassemble, and bench test the Draeger BG4 closed circuit breathing apparatus. After a brief lecture at the start of each day, they worked hands on with the devices to ensure they learned correctly. At the end of training, all our members passed the exam and will be receiving certificates in the mail soon!

Having multiple team members trained helps to ensure safe operation and efficient inspection of one of our most important pieces of equipment. Great work team and thank you to Draeger for supporting us!

Last weekend, the Mine Rescue team practiced a full underground problem in the Student Center. It was a strong learning experience for everyone involved and we are excited to go back to competitions soon!

In addition to weekly meetings during the semester, the Mine Rescue Team has held occasional practices at the Edgar Experimental Mine in Idaho Springs, CO. For some of our new members, it was their first time underground. at this event, we conducted a exercise which helped the new members practice navigational skills, gave a brief tour of the Edgar, and held discussions about the various pieces of equipment found underground. Though planning and organization has been more difficult under the circumstances of COVID-19, we are still working to give our new members exciting training opportunities.
