Narciso Argüelles
Chicano artist and educator Narciso Argüelles, Chair of the OPSU Art Department, is featured in this year’s PFMAA.
✨ Artist Bio
"Narciso Argüelles is a Chicano artist and art educator. He grew up in Tijuana, Mexico, an experience that left a lasting impact on his life and continues to inform his artistic practice. He holds an MFA from the University of California, Irvine, and upon graduation began working as an admissions counselor and recruiter at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Mr. Argüelles later moved to Oklahoma, where he has enjoyed working as both a high school art teacher and a professor. His travels also include a three-year teaching appointment at Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey.
As an artist, Argüelles has exhibited at the Sydney Biennale in Australia; the Johannesburg Biennale in South Africa; Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions; Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center; and INTAR Multicultural Art Gallery in New York City. As a curator, he has organized exhibitions for the Norman Firehouse Art Center, the University of Central Oklahoma Boathouse Gallery, Little D Gallery in the Paseo Arts District of Oklahoma City, and Robert College in Istanbul.
He currently serves as the Art Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Art at Oklahoma Panhandle State University."
