Big news from our GC Communication Dept.! 🎬 The student documentary “Cora Dale – A Rediscovered Harmony” is an official selection at the 2026 SCAD Savannah Film Festival, the world’s largest university-run film festival. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew!

We are excited to announce that the student documentary “Cora Dale – A Rediscovered Harmony” has been officially selected for the 2026 SCAD Savannah Film Festival!

Taking place October 24-31 in Savannah, Georgia, the festival is the world’s largest university-run film festival, showcasing more than 160 films and welcoming over 70,000 attendees each year.

We are proud to see that this Goshen College Communication Department production is recognized among such an incredible lineup of films and stories.

Huge congratulations to the entire cast and crew on this exciting achievement! 👏🏼

Today we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Goshen College is grateful for our partnership with the The Coalition to Dismantle the Doctrine of Discovery, which calls churches to repair harm done to Indigenous peoples in Christ's name.

Goshen College marine biology professor Phil Allman recently served as a panelist for a public discussion on coastal resilience and climate change at REEF Reef Environmental Education Foundation's Ocean Exploration Discovery Center in Key Largo. The event was part of the statewide celebration of Florida Climate Week and was sponsored by the VoLo Foundation.

The panel brought together perspectives on how climate change is affecting Florida’s coastal ecosystems and communities, as well as the role of science, conservation, and community action in building greater coastal resilience. Discussion included the importance of reducing the causes of climate change, protecting natural coastal defenses such as coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, beaches, and dunes, and using long-term ecological monitoring to understand how marine ecosystems are changing.

The evening panel followed a day that also highlighted student involvement in marine science. In separate field activities, University of Miami students conducted reef fish identification surveys, while Goshen College marine biology students worked from another boat and location using REEF’s SMILE camera system. SMILE cameras use paired red lasers to estimate the length of fish photographed underwater, allowing students to collect information about fish abundance and the size structure of reef populations. These measurements provide scientists with important indicators of reef condition and change over time.

For Goshen College, the event connected the work of its Marine Biology program in the Florida Keys with a broader public conversation about the future of Florida’s coasts. Goshen students were contributing directly to reef-monitoring efforts during the day, while Dr. Allman’s participation in the evening panel brought that scientific and educational perspective into a community discussion about how Florida can respond to a changing climate.
