As the Office of Student Services Manager, Zauna brings together her healthcare administration experience and background in education to support CNPD students in OSS from their first inquiry through graduation.

After 10 years at UND, she still enjoys the opportunity to learn through classes, conferences and, most of all, the people she works with.

Outside of UND, Zauna enjoys spending time with her daughter, whether theyโ€™re watching TV, taking a road trip or working on an arts and crafts project. Sheโ€™s also an oil painting teacher! ๐ŸŽจ

๐Ÿฉบ First-semester nursing students in N300 Foundations Lab explored complementary therapies that can be incorporated into patient-centered nursing care. These experiences encouraged students to look beyond traditional medical treatments and consider the emotional, psychological, social, and comfort needs of the patient. These experiences also helped students recognize the value of interprofessional collaboration.

Students learned that therapies can promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, encourage communication, and enhance a patient's overall experience. Students also explored the importance of understanding patient preferences, potential benefits, safety considerations, and the need to consider evidence when discussing complementary therapies.

A special thank-you to our campus and community partners who helped make these learning experiences possible! ๐Ÿ’š

For September, weโ€™re highlighting some of our advisors who help our CNPD students find their path, make connections and work toward their goals.

Valerie, an Academic Advisor and Recruitment Specialist in Nursing, has been part of UND for 25 years and has advised nursing students since 2007.

After graduating from UND with a biology degree, Valerie started working in Enrollment Services (now Admissions) while figuring out what she wanted to do next. She discovered a love for working with college students, eventually earning her masterโ€™s degree in Educational Leadership and finding her way to nursing advising.

Valerie loves watching students grow from โ€œwide eyed freshmen to (sometimes still wide eyed) skilled nursesโ€ and being there for them from orientation all the way through pinning. โ€œItโ€™s a pretty cool gig!โ€ ๐Ÿ’š

Outside of work, Valerie is a self-described goofball and avid sports fan with a love for musical theatre. She also enjoys reading, running and traveling, lately combining the two with โ€œtraveling for running.โ€ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธโœˆ๏ธ

CNPD is part of the UND story, and now that story is stitched into the UND Community Quilt. ๐Ÿ’š

The quilt brings together 144 squares representing the people, places and things that make up the University of North Dakota.

From a nursing lamp and stethoscope to a tree, heart, hands, fruits and vegetables, each square contributed by CNPD's faculty and students tells a small part of the CNPD story while showing how our college contributes to the larger UND community.

Itโ€™s Healthcare Simulation Week!! ๐Ÿฉบ September 14โ€“18, weโ€™re celebrating the people behind healthcare simulation and the important role simulation plays in preparing future healthcare professionals.

Today, meet ๐—˜๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—น, ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜, who has been part of UND for nine years!

Ellenโ€™s advice to nursing students? Go into every clinical experience with an open mind and say ๐—ฌ๐—˜๐—ฆ to learning and experiential opportunities. "Even when you have clinical rotations in areas you aren't excited about, make the most out the experience, get involved, and ask questions - who knows, it may be the area you didn't know you needed."

Ellen was born and raised in the Greater Grand Forks area and enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, two daughters and fur-baby. Her familyโ€™s favorite activities include gardening, golfing, fishing, swimming and boating. When winter arrives, youโ€™ll find her puzzling and crafting.

And there may be a little destiny involved in Ellenโ€™s nursing career: she shares a birthday with ๐—™๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ก๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ, the founder of modern nursing. Weโ€™ll take that as a sign! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Weโ€™re grateful for Ellen and the entire CRSC team who create meaningful opportunities for our students to learn, practice and build confidence.

Nancyโ€™s path to simulation started in the operating room, where she also served as a student preceptor. When she saw an opportunity to work with more students while staying in healthcare and using cutting-edge technology, she knew it was a path worth exploring.

Today, no two days are the same. Nancy manages the CRSC schedule, supports faculty, troubleshoots equipment, orders supplies, works with budgets and, yes, sometimes fixes a simulator or two.

What she loves most? Watching students grow from their very first simulation to their last. โ€œTheir excitement for learning new things is contagious!โ€

Weโ€™re grateful for Nancy and the entire CRSC team who create meaningful opportunities for our students to learn, practice and build confidence.

And outside the CRSC? Nancy and her family raise and show a small herd of registered dairy cattle at fairs and shows throughout the Upper Midwest. ๐Ÿ„
