Resilience is about bouncing back. Anti-fragility is about coming back stronger.

That concept drives the research of Davis School of Business Professor Abdulah Bajaba, DBA, who studies how individuals and organizations grow through disruption, whether that's shifting customer needs, new technology, or unexpected change.

In the classroom, he brings those ideas to life through simulations, group negotiations and discussions that connect theory to his students' own experiences. His goal is simple: send students out of every class with one concept they truly understand and can apply in their careers and lives.

A lighthouse doesn't pull a ship to shore, it lights the way.

CMU recently celebrated its partnership with the Lighthouse Program, which connects Mesa County youth with CMU near-peer mentors. The evening also featured the inaugural Beacon of Light Award, presented to Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser for his work fighting the opioid crisis.

Thank you to Attorney General Phil Weiser, CMU President John Marshall, District Attorney Dan Rubinstein and Director of Juvenile Intervention Jasmine Hill for the creation and support of this life-changing program.

Alumnus Steve Wood always knew he wanted to build airplanes. With a grandfather, father, and uncles who were all pilots, it was practically in his blood.

His journey started at Mesa College, where he took classes while still in high school and earned his Associate of Science in Engineering in 1975. From there, he became a test engineer at Cessna, an aircraft designer, a defense company CEO, and now the founder of Spirit Engineering, Inc., building a light sport aircraft right here in Grand Junction.

Today, he's building the local airplane manufacturing workforce and hiring CMU engineers to help him do it.

"The quality of education they're getting is very high. They're bright. And they're usually not afraid of hard work."

Interested in becoming an EMT or Paramedic? CMU Tech's Emergency Medical Services program trains students for one of the fastest-growing fields in health care. CMU Tech exceeds industry standards, resulting in a 100% paramedic pass rate on the National Registry exam and 94.1% job placement in 2024.

This September, Colorado Mesa University is celebrating Workforce Development Month by highlighting programs offered at CMU Tech. The EMS program in Grand Junction, CO prepares students to become emergency response personnel, caring for patients on the scene, during transport, and in the ER. By combining classroom instruction with clinical rotations, students work through live and simulated scenarios, ambulance operations, and hands-on experience with local fire departments.

Graduates are prepared to sit for the NREMT exam and go on to careers within ambulance services, hospital ERs, ski patrol, search and rescue, and more.
