Congratulations to Professor Emeritus Gary Schmidt, the featured author for the 2026 Big Read Lakeshore!

The NEA Big Read Lakeshore is a month-long, reading program that takes place each Oct-Nov in Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan Counties, to support reading among various age groups. This program uses the shared experience of reading, discussing, and exploring the themes of the book as a springboard to listen to and learn from each other.

This past Friday, they presented the Honors projects they worked on for the past year. Huge applause for the dedication, creativity, and collaboration that went into making these projects such a success.

It's finals week--and commencement is almost here!

One of our grads, Somi Shin, is headed out already this week for her brand-new job, so she will miss graduation. When our department chair Jennifer Holberg heard that, she put on her regalia and had a pop-up ceremony (complete with a gown for Somi from our department's closet of regalia) to celebrate!

Congrats, Somi! And congrats to all our 2026 graduates! We can't wait to celebrate with you on Saturday. 🥳🥳🥳
