The Executive Board of Central Michigan University’s Chapter of Business Professionals of America stands in solidarity with the black community following the murder of George Floyd and countless others as a result of police brutality. We condemn the violence and hatred that black people face on a daily basis. We recognize that our chapter is predominantly white and that we will truly never understand what black people are forced to go through even after years of peacefully protesting.

The mission of BPA as stated on the national website is to “. . . develop and empower student leaders to discover their passion and change the world by creating unmatched opportunities in learning, professional growth, and service.” This means we need to empower ALL student leaders. Our chapter is dedicated to preparing our members to work in a world-class workforce. However, we recognize that our chapter has not spent time preparing our members to work in diverse settings.

During the 2020-2021 school year and after, we are making a commitment to have tough conversations that will challenge our members to look at their privilege and to be more empathetic individuals who will take this knowledge with them into the workforce.

We call on the College of Business Administration and its organizations to make the same commitment.
