In celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month in October, we are featuring some highlights of the LGBTQ+ community's history at Denison.
1973 - DCGA President Dean Hansel '74 works to form the Gay Student Alliance and WDUB broadcasts Denison Lavender Blues (Out of the Campus Closets), billed as an informational program on homosexuality.
1984 - The formation of Gay and Le***an Advocates at Denison (GLAD) is announced in The Bullsheet. In addition to supporting their community, GLAD's goal is to combat homophobia through education, communication, and activism.
1985 - GLAD holds the first Gay Awareness Week, featuring films, performances and Blue Jean Day - a day where the campus is asked to wear jeans to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.
1990 - GLAD's name is changed to Outlook.
1991 - The first Gay, Le***an, Bisexual & Transgender Alumni Association Homecoming event is held. The next year, a GLBTAA newsletter called Voices Swell is published.
2000 - Q***r Studies becomes an official concentration at Denison.
