MAS 110:Contemporary Chicanx Literature
Summer Session 1
asynchronous/online
Instructor: Dr. Alcántar

This course dives into the powerful world of Chicana/o/x literature. Exploring fiction, memoir, poetry, teatro, and illustrated texts, you will learn about identity, migration, language, resistance, and community.
Why take this class?
Because these stories:
🌎 Challenge dominant narratives
🔥 Reflect movements for justice and dignity
🎭 Redefine what counts as “American” literature
We’ll examine how writers respond to history and shape culture through aesthetics, symbolism, and lived experience. You’ll also engage critical theories and scholarly debates that help us understand how language, identity, and power intersect in Chicanx literature.
This isn’t just a literature class.
It’s about voice.
It’s about representation.
It’s about reading the world through your own story.

2 de octubre no se olvida / October 2 is not forgotten
Hoy recordamos a las y los estudiantes asesinados en Tlatelolco en 1968, quienes alzaron la voz por democracia, libertad y justicia en México. Su lucha nos recuerda que la dignidad y los derechos humanos nunca deben darse por sentados.
Today we remember the students murdered in Tlatelolco in 1968, who raised their voices for democracy, freedom, and justice in Mexico. Their struggle reminds us that dignity and human rights must never be taken for granted.
Honramos su memoria, su valentía, y el eco de su grito que sigue presente en cada movimiento por un mundo más justo.
We honor their memory, their courage, and the echo of their cry that continues to inspire every movement for a more just world. Desde Colorado Aztlán hasta Tlatelolco.

Dear Comunidad,
The Department of Chicana/o and Latinx Studies extends our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the six community members who tragically lost their lives at a dairy farm in Weld County. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn alongside the families during this incredibly difficult time.
We know that this devastating loss has profoundly impacted our local Latino communities, and we stand in solidarity with those grieving. To support the families, a GoFundMe account has been established to help cover funeral expenses and provide assistance during this time of need.
If you are able, we encourage you to contribute and help bring some relief to the affected families. You can donate here:
