WX Gal Ariah

WX Gal Ariah Welcome to my page! I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Northern Colorado studying Meteorology!

I will be using this page for all things weather related!

I posted this on my personal account but it definitely deserves to go here also.

If anyone knows me, you know I grew up watching Storm Chasers — RELIGIOUSLY. Storm Chasers paved my inspiration and hunger to study meteorology and chasing tornadoes. If you’ve ever watched Storm Chasers, you might be familiar with the TWISTEX team — an incredible group of guys who were so dedicated to the work they did. Of course, I never got to meet them or know them personally, but I know how much they’ve inspired the next generation of storm chasers, including myself. I’ll never forget the day tragedy struck and we lost them. I was only 12 at the time but I remember not being able to believe it. Even to this day still my friends and I find it hard to believe.

Over the past fall semester, I applied for the Paul Samaras Memorial Scholarship that will be presented at the National Storm Chaser Summit in February… And Erik Fox who does all things NSCS called me not too long ago to inform me that I am 1 OF 2 scholarship award winners, and that my ticket and hotel to attend the summit is paid for.

To my friends and family who follow my page and know me personally (duh), this hits home for me & I’m feeling all of the emotions right now. I’m so incredibly blessed & thankful for this.

Shoutout to my professors for writing my letters of recommendation and to my friends and family for the endless love and support throughout everything!

I can’t wait for February🤍

Happy New Years everyone! We’re officially TWO months away from meteorological spring — thank god cause I am itching to start chasing!

Last year was an incredible year getting out there on the road with the rest of my friends chasing & we’re already looking forward to more🤍

NORTHERN LIGHTS ALERT: A Strong (G3) Geomagnetic Storm Watch is in effect for Monday night, in anticipation of the arrival of an incoming CME (Coronal Mass Ejection).

At G3, the northern lights are often visible across higher latitudes and even mid-latitudes at times. We need to keep a close eye on the timing of the CME arrival. NOAA's current suggestion is quite late in the game Monday night, more geared toward early Tuesday morning in the U.S. That would not be ideal timing. An earlier arrival, however, would open the window to a great show for U.S. viewers. A later arrival could nix Monday night entirely.

As always, we'll be keeping tabs on the data tomorrow to get a sense of how things might play out. Stay tuned!

Today I capped off the final day of the semester by presenting my research poster on the Akron, CO tornado from this May! I worked on this research with my best friend & this was so personal to the both of us as we went on this storm chase with our group of friends! I’m so incredibly proud of my first research poster!

The CMU - Central Michigan Univeristy Biological Station is located on Beaver Island, MI, and this is were I’ve been since Wednesday! My last day is August 15 & here is some of the adventure so far🙂

Today we had several weather briefings on operations for the day based on today’s storms. Not to toot my own horn here, BUT, yesterday morning I did mention in our Discord to take a look at the 12z run, & while the professors didn’t have confidence or hope in that run… I did, and I think I can say I was right😉 Our briefings consisted of moving operations to the west side of the island to collect some windsond, mesonet, and kestrel data in the afternoon, then again after dinner roughly around 6pm to collect more data as the storms moved in. We did a windsond launch during a short window where the rain stopped shortly before it picked up again & knocked our windsond down after it was roughly 261 m AGL. We don’t have any data to discuss tonight as we had to shift our operations around, but I’m looking forward to hearing about it in the morning!
