Time for a with Ellie Bruce!

Ellie is an Environmental Geoscience major and Philosophy minor!

Ellie’s favorite Kappa memory is: “My favorite Kappa memory is definitely formal recruitment and then going into Bid Day. I love how recruitment gives us the opportunity to strengthen our sisterhood and show the love we have for each other to the women going through formal recruitment. Then, on Bid Day, we get to open our arms to our new members and show them just how welcoming and exciting their years with Kappa will be.”

Ellie is grateful that Kappa gave her: “As someone who did not want to go to college and dragged my feet through my freshman year, Kappa has given me a sense of purpose. A lot of my academic success is because of the women who surround me. The women in this house have celebrated me on my best days and shown me nothing but support on my worst. Kappa has inspired me and helped me grow into the woman I am today.”

Ellie’s advice to future Kappas: “Kappa has taught me that I do not always have to have everything figured out. I can try something new, make mistakes, fall short, and still know that I have people around me who believe in me. My advice to future members would be to always put yourself out there, because even if you fall short or fail, you have a house full of loving women who will always be there to lift you back up.”

“I had such a great time at Kappa’s Leadership Academy! It was so fun getting to meet Kappas from different chapters, learn more about leadership qualities, and make new connections along the way. I’m so grateful I got to be a part of this experience and excited to bring everything I learned back to our chapter!”

Today, Kappa is wearing green to support those struggling with their mental health. We want to remind everyone that they do not have to struggle alone and signal our commitment to healing, growth, strength, and hope.

This Kappa Cares Week, we are taking action to decrease stigma, start conversations, and promote mental well-being across the DePauw community. We are honored to partner with Mental Health America and Mental Health America of Putnam County, two incredible organizations that work to support mental wellness for all. Check out the links below for more information about the incredible work they do (or to donate to our fundraising page in support of them)!

Time for a with Peyton Rohr!

Peyton is a Communications major with a Journalism minor!

After graduation Peyton plans to move back home to California and pursue jobs in sports journalism!

Peyton’s favorite Kappa memory is: “Coming back to campus after being off campus for a semester my junior year. I was met with such loving arms and people who genuinely cared so much to have me back and hear about my adventures. It made me fall in love with this house and its people all over again!”

Peyton is grateful that Kappa gave her: “I am grateful that Kappa has taught me to enjoy the little moments, and not live from big event to big event. Some of my fondest memories at DePauw have come in random conversations in the informal or the floor lounges and that has taught me to slow down and find joy in every moment, big or small!”

Peyton’s advice to future Kappas: “Chase after the things that fill you with excitement. It’s never too late to try something new or change your situation. Let your body, heart, and mind guide you where it wants to go!”

Time for another ! This month’s alumnae is 2017 graduate, Manon Carter-Kryspin!

Manon’s favorite Kappa tradition was: “My favorite part of being in Kappa was the sense of community. I loved praises, hanging out in the 2FL/3FL, and knowing there were 60+ closets available whenever you needed the perfect outfit. Bid Day was always one of my favorite days because I loved getting dressed up and welcoming new members into the chapter.”

A life lesson Kappa taught Manon was: “Kappa taught me that it’s more than okay to be yourself. Actually, it’s much cooler to be authentically you. Being surrounded by women with different personalities, talents, and perspectives showed me that there’s not a single definition of what it means to belong. That confidence in being myself is something I’ve carried with me ever since.”

How Manon has carried Kappa’s ideals into adulthood: “Kappa helped me realize that my voice has value and that I have the ability to make a difference in the lives of others. Service and philanthropy continue to be central to who I am, and I strive to lead my life in service to my community every day. Looking back, I’d even like to think that our former philanthropy, Reading Is Fundamental, helped inspire the path that led me to become an ELA teacher.”

What Manon does now: “I’m a middle school ELA teacher at an all-girls STEM school in Indianapolis, and I love what I do. It’s been so rewarding to be part of a school that is mission-driven in creating opportunities and positive STEM outcomes for young women. One of my favorite parts of the job is helping students find their voice through reading and writing while encouraging them to see themselves as future leaders.”
