What are local foodsheds and how does Bon Appétit support them? We're glad you asked. 😏

From farm to plate, a foodshed is where food is grown, how it travels, and the markets and tables it arrives at. Think of it like a watershed, which describes the flow of water!

A resilient local food network is important to help those communities and economies navigate shocks without disrupting supply chains while also building climate resilience through sustainable, regenerative farming practices.

🤝 Bon Appétit relies on strong local foodsheds to help us meet our year-round local purchasing goals, which in turn gives back to and strengthens the local foodshed and community.

Today's the day!
Eat Local Challenge is our once-a-year celebration aimed at highlighting regional networks of food producers that feed us. (Though we aim to source 20% of our food locally through our Farm to Fork purchasing program year round!) Our chefs rise to the occasion year after year to celebrate the bounty of local produce by drawing upon old connections and creating new ones in their local
foodsheds.
