“She sees the law as a way to address real people’s real problems in their real lives.”

That's how Elon Law Associate Professor Eric Fink describes Mayar Elgeyoshi L’26.

Mayar has worked alongside Randolph County prosecutors and Guilford County public defenders, contributed to a capital murder trial, and prosecuted her first criminal cases — all while pursuing opportunities to serve others.

Now she's preparing for a career in the courtroom with a commitment to the people whose lives the law affects.

Keynote speaker Hillary Walsh and panelists explored immigration law and policy through conversations on asylum, family immigration, employment, humanitarianism, borders and the rule of law.

From Elon Law’s charter class to the Superior Court bench.

Gov. Josh Stein has appointed Carrie Vickery L’09 as a North Carolina Superior Court judge. Vickery, the first Elon Law graduate elected to the bench, has served as a District Court judge in Forsyth County since 2017.

"... I’m especially proud of how far my legal journey has taken me, from being part of Elon’s very first class of law students to a decade of service on the District Court bench, and now to serving as the first female resident Superior Court Judge in Forsyth County," Vickery said.

She is also Forsyth County's first female Superior Court judge. As a Superior Court judge, she will hear cases across North Carolina.
