Welcome back Spartans! This summer our office purchased new picnic tables and hammock stands! Hammock stands are located near Moore-Strong, Grogan, and behind Haywood in Spartan Village. It's BYOH though. So pick up a hammock while you're doing your last minute shopping this weekend.

On this International Women's Day, we are highlighting just a few of the MANY women who have made advancements in the field of sustainability. From policy work that laid the foundation for climate policy decisions to facing discrimination from male colleagues to community organizing and education, these women have been pivotal in shaping and sustaining environmentalism and sustainability as we know it today.

If you’ve spent time on campus, you’ve interacted in one way or another with our sustainability initiatives. Chances are you’ve used one of our water bottle refill stations, put an item in a recycling bin, turned on the water with the flick of your wrist, or turned on the lights just by walking into a room. If you’ve eaten in Fountain View dining, you’ve tasted fresh herbs grown in our garden and you’ve participated in our composting program, perhaps without even knowing you were doing so. Or maybe you’ve walked through Peabody Park, our beautiful backyard forest that serves as a research lab for students and faculty in numerous academic departments.

During this Believe in the G, we are asking for support to continue the many incredible sustainability initiatives at UNCG, allowing our beautiful campus to continue to be a living laboratory that meaningfully connects academics and outreach. Just as our individual eco-actions add up to significant impacts, so too will your investment in a sustainable UNCG. We’re excited to announce that Electrify the Triad is officially launching! Electrify the Triad is a new initiative designed to help residents reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and lower household energy costs.

The program will assist residents by connecting them with local contractors to begin home improvement projects that boost energy efficiency and electrification, navigation of rebates, incentives, and project planning, as well as access to additional financing options to help reduce household energy burdens, and protect the planet in the process!

Join us for the official launch event on Saturday, February 28th, from 10am to 1pm. at the Piedmont Regional Council offices. The event will introduce the Electrify Triad program and highlight the goals for electrifying the Triad region.

Share your input for the A&Y Greenline!

The City of Greensboro’s Department of Transportation will host an open house for the Atlantic & Yadkin (A&Y) Greenway Extension Project from 4:30-6:30 pm on Tuesday, February 24, at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church, 2100 Fernwood Dr.

The A&Y Greenway will extend to downtown Greensboro and connect with the Downtown Greenway to complete a route from downtown Greensboro to Summerfield.

The new section of the A&Y Greenway will provide a 12-foot-wide path from Hill Street to Rollins Road. Sidewalk connections to the greenway and to existing bus stops will be constructed on various streets. This includes sidewalks along Battleground Avenue, Lawndale Drive, Mill Street, Fernwood Drive, Markland Drive, Rollins Road, Benjamin Parkway, and the RED Cinemas access drive.

The project also includes the redesign of the Battleground Avenue/Benjamin Parkway/West Smith Street intersection.
