Did you know there’s a 45 year old donut on campus? No one wants to take the last pastry/ treat on a tray 😅
The UNCG Doughnut, which will most certainly outlast us all, celebrates its 45th birthday this year.
The Doughnut found its humble beginnings atop a tray at a library staff orientation in November of 1980. When the meeting concluded, a solitary doughnut remained, though no one wanted to take the last one. This lone ranger remained on the platter for days, until it caught the attention of library staff, disgruntled by the spotty reception of a radio. The Doughnut, the unlikely hero, was suspended from a binder clip above the radio. As if by magic, the college radio station came through clear as a bell.
