Susan Strong, 2020 graduate of the Special Education Undergraduate Program in the Department of Specialized Education Services at UNCG, was recognized as the Certified Employee of the Month for Montgomery County Schools.
Susan shared the following about her recognition “I was honored to be awarded the certified employee of the month for March, voted for by my colleagues. I was also recognized for earning my National Board Certification, joining the ranks of NBCT across the county. I am a proud Self- Contained Exceptional Children’s Teacher for Montgomery County Schools, NC, serving Green Ridge Elementary school. Shadow Sign Language Interpretation of performances of Anne of Green Gables with Studio 1 in Burlington.

Studio 1 in Burlington is proudly presenting a rendition of Anne of Green Gables, with an inclusive twist! Natalie Griffin, a native of Greensboro and a Deaf community member, takes the stage as Anne. Adding more layers to the inclusivity, IDEAS program students are participating as shadow interpreters. For those unfamiliar, shadow interpreting allows for a seamless theatrical experience by subtly incorporating sign language into the performance. Don't miss this groundbreaking production!

IDEAS Students Contributing to the Planning of the Southeast Regional Institute on Deafness (SERID) Annual Conference 2023

This year, the Southeastern Regional Institute on Deafness (SERID) is hosting its annual conference in Charlotte, NC, with the invigorating theme: "Making Connections to Build Bridges because Working Together: We Create Change!" This gathering will be a nexus for professionals in the D/HH and DeafBlind fields, featuring workshops spanning various topics such as Rehabilitation, Education, Technology, STEM, Mental Health, and much more. Notably, our very own IDEAS interns are actively contributing to the conference planning committee.

Dr. Julianne Gold Brunson Alum of the Psychology Department Presented on Domestic Violence Within the Deaf Community.

Dr. Julianne Gold Brunson a Deaf Clinical Psychologist an alum of UNCG working in the Charlotte area gave a presentation in the School of Education building that was sponsored by the Deaf and Hearing College Connection a student lead group in the IDEAS program. Dr. Brunson Gold’s presentation on Domestic Violence Within the Deaf Community was highly attended and informative. Dr. Brunson Gold who is Deaf herself, presented a unique and dynamic presentation given that she is a member of the larger Deaf community.
