The Media Studies major is an integrated program of study that focuses on the creative production and critical consumption of a range of moving-image media. Job Posting: Research Editor, Center for Digital Editing

The Center for Digital Editing seeks a collaborative and detail-oriented professional to support its documentary editing and digital publishing initiatives. Working across multiple scholarly projects, this position contributes to the preparation, publication, and preservation of historical documentary editions through a combination of editorial, technical, and metadata-related responsibilities. The role supports the creation and dissemination of scholarly resources by performing editorial research, document preparation, metadata development, XML encoding, and digital publication activities, while collaborating with technical staff to enhance publishing infrastructure and workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Catalog, transcribe, proofread, and prepare historical documents for publication.

• Conduct data entry, quality control, and editorial review activities to ensure accuracy and consistency across project datasets.

• Research, draft, and revise annotations and other scholarly editorial content.

• Generate and maintain descriptive, administrative, and technical metadata at both project and cross-project levels to support discovery, interoperability, and long-term preservation.

• Perform XML encoding and volume-to-XML conversion activities in accordance with established editorial and technical standards.

• Assist in the development, testing, maintenance, and enhancement of digital publication workflows and systems.

• Collaborate with project developers to customize and manage Drupal-based publishing environments and related digital infrastructure.

• Participate in the planning and implementation of editorial and technical standards, procedures, and best practices.

• Consult with historians, archivists, librarians, and other stakeholders to identify emerging scholarly and community needs and inform future development efforts.

• Contribute to documentation, training materials, and workflow improvement initiatives.

• Support the Center's broader research, publication, and digital humanities activities as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed editorial work with a high degree of accuracy.

• Experience with research methodologies, historical documents, and scholarly publishing.

• Familiarity with metadata standards, XML technologies, and digital humanities methodologies.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

General Job Description
Instructor, Photographic Technology reports directly to the Department Head, Photography Programs. Instructor, Photographic Technology provides quality learning experiences, facilitates the learning process, advises students, seeks professional development opportunities, and contributes to the development of curriculum courses/programs in both photography and graphic design.

Duties
Classroom Instruction

Teach all assigned courses, a range of 18 – 21 contact hours, for the full duration of scheduled instruction
Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency
Teach an academic success class, as needed
Teach production workflows and industry-standard practices for commercial, corporate, documentary, broadcast, streaming, and cinematic productions using professional equipment and software.
Provide instruction in professional camera systems, camera support, and camera movement.
Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback
Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning
Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs
Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories
Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate person(s)
Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment to Department Head
Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established template providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria
Other Services to Students
Maintain appropriate office hours and accessibility for students, a minimum of 5 hours a week.
Serve as educational advisor to assigned students by providing academic and employment planning
Participate in semester advising and registration activities as assigned
Perform and verify graduation degree audits
Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College
Advocate and provide motivation for students
Communicate student needs to Department Head
Divisional Administrative Expectations
Prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner meeting all deadlines, checking for accuracy, correctness and completeness of all data
Exert an effort to remain current in discipline and instructional methods through professional development activities offered by the College and other opportunities including attendance at off-campus activities, webinars, etc., as feasible
Participate in program and curriculum review; offering suggestions concerning the improvement of curriculum in keeping with the mission and vision of the College
Serve on and actively contribute to college committees as needed and as appointed by the President
Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced co-curricular activities of the College
Maintain proper communication and supportive relationships at all times with all other units and branches of the college
Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the discipline, department, division, and College
Other Duties Specific to the Position
Key responsibility for subject areas including working closely with Department Head on curriculum currency, recruiting, work-based learning and supply budget needs, and job placement.
Responsibility for ink jet printers, ink supplies, repair and maintenance (AE 153, AE 140).
Professional membership and active participation in appropriate related professional organization(s).
Annual professional development in photographic multimedia and/or cross training in other areas of vocational photography.
Work closely with Department Head and other instructors on annual equipment, software and supply budget needs for digital imaging classes.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:

Associate’s degree in photography, graphic design or in a closely related field from an accredited institution with a focus on digital and multimedia.
2-5 years of working in Multimedia Journalism, Graphic Design, Digital Media or related field.
Preferred:
Master's in fine arts (MFA) or bachelor's degree in photography with concentration in multimedia or related fields.
One year of teaching experience in curriculum programs in a community college or higher education setting
