UNCG's AMSA is a dynamic, interdisciplinary department of approximately 60 majors offering BA degrees in Classical Studies in four concentrations (Classical Archaeology, Classical Civilization, Classical Language and Literature, and online Ancient Mediterranean Studies) and in Archaeology. UNCG’s College of Arts & Sciences Week is coming up soon (September 14-18)—and as part of the celebrations, AMSA is hosting a Roman cooking (and eating) event! Come learn about, help prepare, and taste traditional ancient Roman dishes, from gladiator gatorade (mostly vinegar!), to savory cheese spreads and everyday bean breakfast porridge. Participants will even learn to grind wheat the Roman way! Free and open to all—come by MHRA 2209 from 12:30-1:30 to join in the fun! College of Arts & Sciences

This year the offered grants to encourage collaboration between College of Arts and Sciences faculty and faculty from other UNCG colleges and schools. One of the funded projects was submitted by AMSA’s Robyn Le Blanc in collaboration with Kevin Vanek in CVPA and Dennis LaJeunesse at JSNN! This ambitious new project explores how workshops minted coins in the Roman Near East—check out the graphic to learn more!
