Congratulations to graduate student Taylor Wood on her (first!) publication in the journal Social Development with DUCKie alum Dr. Andrea Yuly-Youngblood and DUCK Lab Co-I Dr. Janet Boseovski.

We wanted to learn how 5- to 10-year-olds think about the role of status and gender when evaluating others. What did we find? Children show a preference for high status, same-gender peers in terms of ability and admiration. BUT children also showed awareness of a status hierarchy in which they favored boys with age, especially for judgments related to leadership. We need to be aware of these early biases – and nip them in the bud - because they may shape girls’ and boys' ideas about who is qualified for future leadership roles. As always, our research (and the degree progress of our students) relies on the generosity of the families, schools, teachers, and administrators who support our work. We greatly appreciate it.

In the news🗞️--> North Carolina’s esports ecosystem is growing fast—and we’re proud to be part of it.

One example highlighted here is the UNCG Scholastic Esports Alliance, the first university-led, curriculum-focused statewide high school esports league in the country. It’s one way we’re connecting education, competition, and career pathways for the next generation.

North Carolina has engineered one of the most direct financial pipelines from fan spending to competitive gaming infrastructure of any state in the country, and the results are becoming visible in 2026.
