What can happen when curiosity meets family history?

For Cole Smith '26, a question in class led to a year of interviews, research, filmmaking, and discovery. His documentary explores the legacy of his grandparents, successful McDonald's franchise owners, whose commitment to community left a lasting impact across generations.

The project earned first-place honors at UNCG's Undergraduate Research and Creativity Expo in April.
