Economics Department is in process of reconnecting with our great alumni! We have three goals in mind: establish alumni "circles" around major metro areas, start a mentorship program for current students, and fundraise for a student scholarship named after Robert G.! Happy 2025! Guilford Econ wishes you happy holidays and new year! The picture here is Robert picking olives in Italy this October with his friend Franco (from Stanford Economics Phd program). Bob and Natalya are traveling to San Francisco to American Economics Association early January. Hope everyone's new year is filled with adventure, learning, and many happy moments with family and friends!

Guilford students were learning about Mexican economy with Prof. Natalya Shelkova on a study-abroad trip this May. We learned about the economy of the Aztecs, colonial Mexico, and modern Mexico. Here we are at Teotihuacan, a pre-Aztec "abondoned" city, about 1 hour outside of Mexico City.

I just learned that our Econ senior (and a member of Men's basketball team), Chandler Tuten is apparently a TikTok star with his comedy sketches that he started to produce during Covid. Chandler has about 3 mln subscribers across different platforms. Wow, Chandler! We've got a lot of talent at Guilford Econ!

ALUMNI NEWS: We have some great news to share (and more to come). Josh Wynn, our 2013 alum was just named to the Forbes List of the nation's top wealth managers under 40! Forbes in collaboration with Shook Research chose each candidate on a number of qualitative and quantitative criteria, including: in-person interviews; industry experience; compliance records; revenue produced; and assets under management. Josh works for Edward Jones in North Beach, Maryland. Congratulations, Josh!

The wealth management population is aging, with studies showing the average age of a financial advisor is 55 years old and one in five advisors are 65 or over.
