“As an intern, I assisted with organizing folders, managing supplies, and providing general support. One of the most impactful experiences was witnessing a forensic interviewer work with real victims in the Crimes Against Children Taskforce, where I encountered highly sensitive cases involving minors.
One notable incident involved a report from a concerned mother who feared her child had been in contact with an older man. I also observed several interviews conducted by the forensic interviewer. One case that particularly stood out was a rumored prostitution ring involving minors. During the interviews, the minors seemed to be shifting blame onto one another, insisting they weren’t involved while mentioning each other's names in connection to the situation. Unfortunately, I never found out whether the club associated with these activities if they managed to find enough evidence to shut it down.
I also got a chance to see an arrest being processed, it was a previous s*x offender who got caught with child po*******hy in his emails. I had the opportunity to observe a federal agent as she processed a criminal and conducted an interview that led to a confession. It was an incredible experience this whole internship, but it was also profoundly impactful to see the sheer volume of cases this task force handled. Witnessing the number of victims coming in for interviews was heartbreaking, and it opened my eyes to how prevalent crimes against minors truly are.”
