National elections get most of the attention.

But many decisions you feel closest to home are influenced by local and state government.

The North Carolina Senate helps shape statewide laws, budgets and policy priorities.

For Pitt County, that means NC Senate District 5.

The names on your ballot matter, but understanding what those offices actually do matters too.

That is the goal of our VREM 2026 voter education initiative.

State representatives vote on legislation, the state budget and policies affecting education, health, public safety and communities across North Carolina.

Here in Pitt County, voters may fall within NC House District 8 or District 9.

Before November, know your district and understand the office.
