CHHS Impact was felt throughout this week at East Carolina Heart Institute!
Today it was Drs. Joe Stock and Carmen Cuthbertson presenting on their research at Aortic Awareness Day. They discussed their findings and ongoing work about physical activity levels and improving cardiovascular health related to blood pressure and patients.

At Keepers of the House earlier this week also at ECHI, CHHS faculty, staff and students were instrumental in organization and the success of the annual Keepers of the House interprofessional event, in collaboration with ECU housekeepers and ECU Health and thanks to support from ECU’s Truist Leadership Center. This was a collaboration across colleges — CHHS, College of Nursing, Brody School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine — with devoted faculty members and hundreds of students in health sciences fields in attendance. They could ask questions during a panel discussion, including to longtime ECU housekeeper Linda Spell. Drs. Bhibha Das and Chris Lysaght helped facilitate and guide panel discussion topics. Students also learned from each other and collaborated during small group activities as part of the event, which was designed for all participants to expand their understanding of the healthcare team and various roles.

We are interested in the role of blood vessel function and the sympathetic nervous system on blood pressure. To do this, we use non-invasive devices such as ultrasound and blood pressure cuffs.

Sunset yoga and classroom connections 🧘‍♀️

Students from Mrs. Anna Ballance’s KINE 4850 Group Exercise Leadership Methods course attended the sunset yoga class hosted by ECU Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW). In connection with their class, this yoga event was a great opportunity to identify course concepts to applied instruction, including group exercise instructor preparation and presence, exercise environments, participant engagement, and adapting instruction to different skill sets.
