During the fall of 2012, Thiel College launched the Thiel College Equestrians. Thiel Equestrians (TE) was a student organization that introduced or extends equestrian skills and knowledge in horseback riding lessons. In 2015, TE started competing in IHSA competitions. The following year an equine minor was launched at Thiel College. TE accepts beginner, intermediate and advanced students intereste
d in riding horses. Participants have discipline options including but not limited to western, hunt seat, driving, reining, barrels, and roping. TE members have the opportunity to compete through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). The association provides collegiate riders of all skill levels the opportunity to compete as a team and individually in equestrian competition. IHSA competitions provide saddled horses for riders; cutting down on the financial burden of showing. IHSA shows are judged on ability of a rider and not the performance of the horse.
