PINK PEARL AFFAIR SPOTLIGHT: McCONNELL-RAAB HOPE LODGE
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Kappa Omega Chapter Greenville, NC and East Carolina Ivy Foundation Inc. are excited to welcome American Cancer Society McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge as one of the resource vendors during the Pink Power Hour at the Pink Pearl Affair. They provide a free place to stay for eligible cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel for treatment—creating a welcoming community where guests can rest, connect, and focus on their treatment journey. Sometimes support looks like a listening ear. Sometimes it looks like transportation. And sometimes, hope looks like a home away from home.

Visit their table to discover resources, such as accommodations, day guest services, transportation support, and the EMPOWER Program. The McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge has one message--"Hope Has a Home!"

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Kappa Omega Chapter Greenville, NC is celebrating Ms. Janice Duffie's 14 years of being Cancer-Free!!

Janice was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in September 2011. Her journey included six cycles of chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, and 12 weeks of radiation therapy. Through every challenge, her faith in God’s healing power remained her foundation. Taking life one day at a time and refusing to let worry become overwhelming gave her strength, courage, and hope. Janice encourages anyone facing breast cancer to surround themselves with a strong and supportive network, practice self-care, and find a personal reason to keep fighting.

Today, Janice proudly celebrates 14 years as a breast cancer survivor. She is grateful for the strength she discovered within herself and for the amazing tribe that prayed, encouraged, supported, and lifted her along the way. Stronger than ever, Janice embraces life with gratitude and celebrates every precious moment.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Kappa Omega Chapter Greenville, NC is celebrating Ms. Tywanna Jeffries Purkett's 3 years of being Cancer-Free!!

Tywanna was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2023. Although the diagnosis brought uncertainty, she knew she had to keep moving forward and focus on the next steps in her journey. She underwent a partial mastectomy followed by 30 cycles of radiation therapy.

Through it all, Tywanna’s faith remained at the center of her journey. Prayer, trust in God, and the unwavering love and support of her family gave her the strength to face even the most difficult days. Tywanna encourages anyone facing breast cancer to keep the faith, hold on to hope, lean on those who love you, advocate for yourself, and take the journey one day at a time.

Now in remission, Tywanna emphasizes the importance of regular screenings, taking care of your health, and appreciating the gift of each day. Her journey is a beautiful reminder that even during life’s most challenging seasons, faith and hope can help carry you forward.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Kappa Omega Chapter Greenville, NC is celebrating Ms. Sandra Cook's 1 year and counting of being Cancer-Free!

Sandra’s breast cancer journey included six cycles of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, and 28 days of radiation therapy. Through every challenge, the unwavering love and support of her husband, family, and friends helped keep her strong, encouraged, and hopeful.

Throughout her treatment, Sandra remained active and continued to enjoy life—taking cruises, traveling to Myrtle Beach and Williamsburg, and spending precious time with extended family. She refused to allow cancer to define her life. Sandra encourages others facing breast cancer to stay connected, remain positive, keep moving forward, and hold tightly to their faith. Her journey is a reminder to continue living, loving, and believing even in the midst of the battle.

In the words of Yolanda Adams, “The battle is not yours, it’s the Lord’s.”
