From West Point to Fort Knox, Lander senior August “Gus” Darden spent his summer putting his leadership, resilience and commitment to service to the test.

After successfully completing the U.S. Army Air Assault School — known as the “toughest 10 days in the Army” — Darden went directly into 31 days of Cadet Summer Training at Fort Knox. Now back at Lander, he’s taking on his next challenge as Battalion Commander of the Highlander Battalion, leading more than 70 cadets across three campuses.

🏛️ LANDER WOMEN’S RUGBY IN WASHINGTON, D.C.! 🏉

We couldn’t be more proud of Maria for representing Lander Women’s Rugby and Lander University on Capitol Hill!

Maria is spending her semester in Washington, D.C. as a Congressional Intern with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), where she is gaining firsthand experience in government, public service, and the issues impacting communities across the country.

Through her internship, Maria has learned the importance of representation for minority groups in America and has been able to see how policy and advocacy can create real, tangible impacts in communities. She has especially enjoyed giving back, contributing to meaningful work, and seeing the growing influence of women in the future of our country.

Maria will also have the opportunity to intern with Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove of California, continuing to learn, serve, and grow through her experience on Capitol Hill.

We are incredibly proud to see one of our own taking on Washington, D.C., making an impact, and representing the values of Lander Women’s Rugby and Lander University wherever she goes. 💙💛

Lander University has reached a historic milestone, welcoming 4,810 students for Fall 2026 — the highest enrollment in the University’s 154-year history.

This year marks Lander’s 11th consecutive year of enrollment growth and eighth consecutive year of record enrollment. The University also welcomed its largest-ever class of first-time freshmen, with 1,033 members of the Class of 2030.

The record-breaking enrollment reflects Lander’s continued growth and commitment to providing students with a high-quality, affordable education and opportunities that prepare them for success.
