Congratulations to Horticulture student (soon to be graduate) Archie Ferqueron for making a clean sweep of the PTC Student Awards Ceremony! Archie was recognized as the distinguished student for the Horticulture Program, the Entire Engineering and Industrial Division, and the whole college! Archie is as studious, passionate, and generous a person as you will ever meet. Archie came to our program in the midst of retiring from a successful career in manufacturing. He came to our program with a strong interest in controlled environment agriculture production and he plans to launch and operate his own production operation after graduating. Archie took the fast track to graduation by taking 18-21 hours per semester. He maintained near full-time employment while also coaching his recreational league soccer teams (of which he is very passionate about). Even in the midst of all of this and several personal challenges, Archie maintained a 4.0 GPA. Anytime we had extracurricular activities like plant sales, garden tours, or high school recruiting activities, Archie was there volunteering. Archie was selected by the Irrigation Association as an E3 Learner Scholarship for an all expenses paid trip to the national Irrigation Association Conference in Las Vegas last fall. Of his own initiative, Archie attended the World Ag Expo in California to get prepared for launching his own business. This summer after he graduates, you will be able to find him at the Cultivate '23 Conference and Tradeshow in Columbus, OH volunteering his time and learning more along the way as he loves to do. More than his accomplishments, Archie is a kind and generous person, who has always taken his time to help classmates and instructors alike. Our Urban Tree Care class just took an awesome field trip to the Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories and Arboretum in Charlotte, NC. They showed us many of the tools that are used for plant health care, their plant diagnostic lab, tree research plots, and some unique tree training techniques. This was a really cool Facility and Arboretum and all the staff were extremely kind and passionate about their work. Thank you so much for hosting us !

We are getting all geared up for our plant sale this Friday and Saturday, April 7th and 8th at the greenhouse. Come out from 8 am - 2 pm and support our horticulture students. Sale location and information can be found in the attached flyer.

Practice makes perfect! Our Landscape Plant Installation team ranked 5th out of 45 competing colleges in the nation last week at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition! Special thanks to for donating sod (first picture) for our students to use for practice runs before the actual event! Great job on this event Emily, Chris, and Angela!

On the way to Starkville, MS for the National Collegiate Landscape Competition! On Day 1 we stopped in Athens, GA to visit our friends at UGA. We got to tour and learn about the UGA soil lab, trial gardens, and Athens-Clarke County Extension. On Day 2 we visited the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, which is still amazing, even when it is freezing 🥶 outside. And we just had to stop at Buc-ee's on the way to Starkville. If you haven't been, It is INSANE! Not another gas station stop like it. We are excited to get started with some educational workshops tomorrow!

That's a wrap! The PTC Horticulture program manned a booth at the annual Conference and Tradeshow in Columbia and a record high, nine PTC students attended this year! On top of that, four of them were awarded scholarships. Additionally, our Department Head, Daniel Greenwell was announced as a new Educational Advisor on the SC Green Board. What an exciting two days! This is an exciting industry to be in and we are grateful for organizations like SC Green for supporting education and professional development.
