Published just last month, a new resource edited by Drs. Paul Kemeny (Interim Dean of the Calderwood School of Arts & Letters and Professor of Religion and Humanities) and Gary Scott Smith (Professor of History Emeritus) analyzes nuances in Presbyterian history and beliefs. The Oxford Handbook of Presbyterianism works through many domains of the Presbyterian tradition: History, Structure, Theology, Worship, Ethics, Politics, and Education. The Handbook was organized by Drs. Kemeny and Smith, with entries written by experts in their fields. Some of the Grove City connections include alumnus Dr. David S. Guthrie, who co-authored the chapter “Presbyterians and Higher Education,”, former professor of Religion Dr. W. Andrew Hoffecker, who wrote the chapter “Predestination and Election”, and father of alumnus Dr. Scott W. Sunquist, who co-authored the chapter “Presbyterianism in Asia”. Drs. Kemeny and Smith each wrote an entry as well: “Presbyterians, Schisms, and Denominations” and “Presbyterians and Social Reform,”, respectively.
