Today, the Brothers of the Upsilon Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. held our first Dad & Me Breakfast event. We would like to thank our guest speaker, Mrs. Dion Davis, for her inspiring words that resonated with both the fathers and children in attendance.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to That Flippin’ Egg in Evans, GA, for hosting us this morning and helping make this event a success.

From the Brothers of Upsilon Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. we are honored to bring you a moment in history that not only represents Black History in America but it indeed represents America’s History.

Dr. Thomas Walter Josey (1881–1956) was a respected African American physician, community leader, and civic activist from Augusta, Georgia. He became one of the most influential Black professionals in the city during the segregation era.

He is best known as:
    •    A pioneering Black medical doctor
    •    A community organizer and philanthropist
    •    A fraternity leader (Omega Psi Phi)
    •    A champion for youth development and education

Early Life & Education
    •    Born in Augusta, Georgia to parents who had been formerly enslaved.
    •    Worked his way through school despite social barriers.
    •    Attended:
    •    Haines Institute
    •    Atlanta University
    •    Howard University Medical School

His success reflected determination during a time when opportunities for Black professionals were extremely limited.

🩺 Medical Career & Professional Achievements

Dr. Josey became one of the few Black physicians practicing in Augusta during the early 1900s.

Key roles included:
    •    Medical Director of Pilgrim Health and Life Insurance Company
    •    President of the Stoney Medical and Dental Association
    •    Regional Vice President of the National Medical Association

He used medicine not only as a profession but as a tool for community advancement.  

  Civic Leadership & Community Impact

Dr. Josey was deeply involved in social and community organizations:
He Organized Bible classes at Tabernacle Baptist Church
    •    He was a Major supporter of youth programs and charity drives.

Dr. Josey was a Charter member and Basileus (President) of the Psi Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
    
This leadership strengthened Black civic and professional advancement locally.  

    •    T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School in Augusta (opened 1964) was named in his honor.
