Our next Grad is Dominick Fletcher! We asked Dom about his time at Western and what he enjoyed about it.

Here is what he had to say:
Starting College, I had no idea what I wanted to do. It wasn’t until I joined the COM program that I really found my passion in journalism specifically in sports. The COM program created that path along with guiding me through, with support from Terry and Jack. The program really gave me tools to become versatile within the field of social media marketing, podcasting & journalism as well as filmmaking. The COM program expands your creativity and I’m very thankful to have been a part of it. I highly recommend any incoming student into Western Colorado to join the COM Program.

Congrats Dominick! We are so proud of you and can't wait to see what you do in your future endeavors!

Join us in Celebration of our December Graduates!!!

First up is Morgan Holmes, we asked her a few questions about her time at western as well as what she will be doing after school!

What motivated you to choose COM as your major?
I was motivated to choose COM as my major because the degree felt versatile and like I could take it in any direction. I was also really drawn to how applicable the classes were to the professional world.

What have you enjoyed most about earning your COM major, and related schoolwork?
I have enjoyed meeting my COM peers and making connections with my professors the most while earning my COM major. I also got the opportunity to work on many impactful projects throughout my courses making the degree feel even more enjoyable.

What will you miss most about leaving Western and possibly the Gunnison Valley?
I will be sticking around the Gunnison Valley for a while and hope to continue to integrate myself deeper into the community. Not seeing and working with some of the people I’ve made strong connections with, peers and professors, will probably be something I will miss the most.

Finally, what plans do you have for yourself once you graduate?
I plan to substitute for the school district right after graduation while I figure out what it is I want to pursue.

Congrats Morgan we are so proud of you!

April 20-23, nine students from Communication Arts and the school of Business were chosen to participate in this year's Las Vegas Immersion trip.

During the trip, students got the opportunity to tour the south point hotel with general manager Steve Stallworth, meet with David Kirvin, Partner at KDC Communications, the biggest PR firm in Las Vegas, as well as visit with three of his colleagues. Students were also able to learn about how Vegas works from Yale Rowe, GM of Hard Rock Hotel, learn about event development from the vice president of Las Vegas Events, Dale Eeles, and tour KVVU- TV with Kristin Bernal.

Along with learning about the business side of things, students also got the opportunity to tour the Titanic Artifact Museum, visit the highest observational wheel in North America, and see a show put on by Cirque du Soleil!

This trip was unforgettable, congrats to the students selected!

Do YOU know Eliza Worley-Ekstom??

Allow me to enlighten you, Eliza is a 2021 WCU Strategic Communications graduate, who was recently offered a position at western as the Success Advisor for the new Adult Degree Completion program. Eliza enjoyed so much about Western and always felt supported, enjoyed seeing familiar faces in Taylor Hall every day and loved the small classroom learning environment.
Worley-Ekstorm is enjoying her new position and states; ”Because the program is so new and growing day-by-day, each week presents new challenges and problems to solve - I value my coworkers and their extensive knowledge so much. As an adult learner myself, I love that I’m able to use my personal and relatable experiences from Western to advise ADC students”.

Way to go Eliza!
