The Club had an amazing time at the APVMA Symposium at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Auburn, Alabama this weekend!! Five of our members (listed below) and our advisor, Dr. James Monks attended.

Our day started yesterday at a southern dinner with over 700 pre-veterinary students from across the country at Auburn’s beautiful Equestrian Center. We got to paint a dog house barrel and won first place with our soup can out of all the club’s creations!! Other activities included painting tiles, taking photo booth pictures, and a corn hole tournament. There was also guest speakers from St. George’s CVM and Auburn CVM.
We woke up bright and early this morning and attended wetlabs. Danielle attended a calving lab where she got to learn how to tie chains on the legs of a fake calf in a simulation cow giving birth to manipulate the baby’s position. Sam, Maureen, Sara and Jena attended a small ruminant lab where they learned to clip goat hooves and draw blood. We also attended lectures from various veterinarians in the field such as an army vet, public health vet working for the CDC, an elephant vet, and many more. There was also various networking opportunities with admission counselors from veterinary schools who had tables such as NCSU, LMU, Ohio, Louisiana State, UF, Mississipi State, Michigan State, Mid- Western, Western, Ross, St. George, Virginia Maryland, Cornell, Kansas State, Auburn, Ontario, University of Dublin and more!!!!
We ended our night with a formal dinner, elections for the APVMA board and the scholarship awards ceremony. We also heard a guest speaker from Ross University CVM talk about his career path getting board certified in internal medicine and anesthesiology at Kansas State/Cornell University and Tony Wynne from VMCAS!
Lastly, we were awarded the APVMA Outstanding Club Community Award and our member Samantha, was awarded the APVMA Outstanding Senior Award for the 2017-2018 year.
We had a great time and encourage members to attend next year, it will be held at Texas A&M!!!
