Miami Regionals and the Menard Family Center for Democracy welcome author and political scientist Hahrie Han for the Joyce Hulse Manko Lecture in Government 7 p.m. W, Sept. 16, at the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center on the Hamilton campus.
Han, a MacArthur Fellow and author of “Undivided: The Quest for Racial Solidarity in an American Church,” will explore what communities can learn from efforts to bridge racial and social divides and strengthen civic life.
In “Undivided,” Han chronicles the experiences of Crossroads Church, a Cincinnati-area congregation whose members sought to confront racial division and create a more inclusive community. Drawing on years of embedded research, Han examines how church leaders and members navigated conversations about race, faith, identity, and belonging, revealing both the possibilities and complexities of creating lasting change.
The New York Times praised the book for offering “a refreshingly complex portrait” of an institution and its members navigating change.
Han is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Professor of Political Science and director of the P3 Lab at Johns Hopkins University. A political scientist and 2022 MacArthur Fellow, her research focuses on civic and political participation, collective action, social change, and the role organizations play in democracy.
The Menard Family Center for Democracy is proud to play a role in bringing this important conversation to Butler County.
