"Composer and bassist Alejandro Rutty is best-known for his distinctive mix of South American styles, lyrical melodies, meticulous rhythmic detail, and exotic textures. His recent output includes solos, duos, trios and quartets for extended-range electric bass, which he performs by himself or with other musicians.
'The Why Bass? project is an ongoing series in which I compose and perform music for extended-range electric bass, both as a solo instrument or in collaboration with other musicians. As of 2026, two recordings in the series have been commercially released: Why Bass? and Why Bass? II, with a third volume currently in development.'"

This morning Kelly Boudreaux, the Director of the Southeastern Community Music School, accepted an incredibly generous donation from First Guaranty Bank on behalf of the Community Music School! Brandon and Jane Wear who are both vocal music alumni of SLU (who met while attending SLU Music and are now married AND both work for First Guaranty Bank!) presented the check and are shown in this picture. We'd like to also thank Kristin Williams of First Guaranty and Vanessa Prentice, Chief Engagement Officer of University Advancement.
