Purdue Northwest College of Engineering and Sciences

Purdue Northwest College of Engineering and Sciences We are the Pride of Northwest Indiana – and beyond. STEM is the universally recognized acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

These disciplines form much of the intellectual foundation needed for an advanced society and both President Obama and the National Science Foundation have directly linked the strength of the STEM workforce to our nation’s ability to compete successfully on the world stage of the 21st century. To succeed in this new technologically-confident world, all students must develop their STEM capabilities

to levels beyond what was considered acceptable in the past. In response to this need, Purdue has always been a leader in meeting the challenges of a hi- tech, knowledge-based economy and Purdue University Northwest’s special mission is to bring this world-respected expertise home to students and stakeholders in Northwest Indiana. In the College of Engineering and Sciences, this expertise is delivered by the internationally-respected faculty of our five departments. Whether you’re a student ready to begin a lifetime of learning as an undergraduate, a bachelor’s degree holder seeking graduate training for career advancement, or if you’re a potential industrial partner seeking an academic edge; at Purdue University Northwest’s College of Engineering and Sciences our goal is to make your success a reality! It's Day of Giving today at Purdue Northwest

Our college has a Student Emergency Fund that provides short-term emergency financial support for when unexpected complications threaten to derail our students' progress or continued enrollment.

Our students shouldn't need to decide between paying a medical bill or a tuition bill. They shouldn't need to miss an exam because their car's at the repair shop. A relatively small amount of money at the right moment can mean the difference between graduating and dropping out!

If you are able, please consider donating $10 today and sharing this message with your network. We would be grateful for your support. Every little bit helps. Thank you!!

Thank you for making a difference in our community!

This webinar is the first of a three-part series from the Great Lakes Commission (GLC): Realizing Resilience: Coordinating efforts from across the Great Lakes basin. The webinar series is offered in advance of the Midwest Climate Resilience Conference, scheduled for October 20-22 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Staff from the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP) will preview the upcoming Midwest Climate Resilience Conference, and the Great Lakes Commission will provide an overview of GLC's Action Plan for a Resilient Great Lakes Basin . This Action Plan helps to prioritize basin-wide efforts and forms a roadmap to advance climate resilience in the region.

In subsequent webinars, participants will hear from agencies and organizations that participate with the GLC’s Standing Committee on Climate Resilience. Webinar speakers will share examples of resilience implementation efforts throughout the region, referring to the goals of the Action Plan. We look forward to presenting this webinar series to help achieve a common baseline understanding of Great Lakes resilience efforts among participants prior to the conference.

Stay tuned for more details for future GLC webinars, planned for early August and late September, as part of the series Realizing Resilience: Coordinating efforts from across the Great Lakes basin!

Congratulations to Kaylan Norise-Muhammad (Graduate Student - Biological Sciences) and Dr. Matt Ladwig (Assistant Professor of Integrative Human Health and Dr. John Durocher (Professor of Integrative Human Health) for their presentation entitled 'Trait Anxiety is Weakly Associated with Arterial Stiffness in Healthy Adults'. This research was presented at the American Physiology Summit 2025. You can read the abstract at https://journals.physiology.org/doi/abs/10.1152/physiol.2025.40.S1.1284 Purdue University Northwest Biological Sciences American Physiological Society

Previous work has shown that trait anxiety is a predictor of resting blood pressure and sympathetic nerve activity in humans. Sympathetic activity, blood pressure, and arterial stiffness are often linked, therefore we sought to determine if trait anxiety would be positively associated with arterial....
