Homecoming is closer than you think! 🎉 Set for October 16–18, this year’s celebration will be a time filled with Tiger Football, Tiger Rugby, and Tiger Soccer, along with awesome tailgates, the CAC Homecoming Concert, and good old-fashioned H-SC camaraderie. 🤝

Also taking place on October 17 is a preview day, a great opportunity to experience the vibrant community on campus and discover all that H-SC has to offer!

Assistant Dean of the Faculty and Elliott Professor of History James Frusetta has received the Professional Development Award from the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) through its Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE).

Funded by Lilly Endowment Inc., the Professional Development Award supports NetVUE member institutions in fostering conversations about vocation and equipping campus leaders to guide vocational exploration. Frusetta’s proposal will foster campus discussions and create training modules to support vocational advising.

The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) has presented its Professional Development Award to Professor of History James Frusetta through its Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE).

This year marks 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As a community, we will take time throughout the week to remember and reflect on a day that changed our nation and impacted us like no other.

In addition to other events taking place throughout the week, please take note of Dr. John Hillen’s lecture, “The Everlasting Security Challenges: 25 Years After 9/11,” on September 10 at 7pm.

Hampden-Sydney College officially began its 252nd academic year Monday with opening convocation, which included the swearing-in of new student government officials, recognition of student achievements, and remarks from keynote speaker Adam Farver, chairman of the board of Pella Corporation and a former student of President Stimpert. In his remarks, Farver encouraged students to embrace their time on the Hill and challenged them to grow in courage and spirit.

Following convocation, the Hampden-Sydney community gathered at Lake Chalgrove for the engagement fair and picnic, capping off a great first day of the new academic year!

Hampen-Sydney officially marked the beginning of the 252nd academic year at the opening convocation ceremony on Monday, August 24th, 2026.

Leadership has been a defining part of the Hampden-Sydney experience for Owen Renfrow ’27. Through Army ROTC, the Hampden-Sydney Swim team, the German Club, Chi Phi fraternity, and his role as an assistant swim coach at Prince Edward Middle and High School, Owen has embraced opportunities to lead on and off the Hill. Alongside his dedication to his studies, these experiences are helping Owen build the skills, discipline, and confidence that will serve him well beyond graduation.

Owen Renfrow ’27 found everything he was looking for in a college and more at Hampden-Sydney where he discovered he could thrive as a natural leader.
