🌕🌾 Happy Chuseok & Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

This time of year brings celebrations rooted in gratitude, harvest, family, and togetherness. Today, we recognize Chuseok, one of Korea’s most meaningful holidays, as well as the Mid-Autumn Festival, an important traditional celebration across Chinese communities.

While each holiday has its own history and traditions, both offer an opportunity to gather with loved ones, reflect on what we’re grateful for, and celebrate the connections that bring us together. ✨

Whether you celebrate these holidays or are learning about them for the first time, we invite our JMU community to take a moment to appreciate the richness of the cultures and traditions represented among us.

Wishing our APIDA students, faculty, staff, and friends a joyful season filled with warmth, gratitude, good food, and good company. 💗

What is something about your culture that you cherish? 💭

Maybe it’s the red envelopes passed from hand to hand at Lunar New Year, the honoring of ancestors during Chuseok, the rhythm of a Polynesian song or dance carried through generations, or the glow of diyas lighting a South Asian home during Diwali. 🧧🌕🌺🪔

Maybe it’s a language spoken at the dinner table, a recipe that tastes like childhood, a song your grandparents knew by heart, or a tradition that has found a new shape in your own life. These are more than just memories. They are threads connecting us to those who came before us, and to the people we will become.

传 / Chuán — Passing On: Voices for Distant Worlds explores these connections through art, publishing, and storytelling. Come experience the stories, art, and traditions that remind us of what it means to carry something forward. Join us at Chuán and bring a story of your own. 🌏🫶

Dear APIDA Caucus members and friends,

The Steering Committee of the APIDA Caucus would like to encourage you to join us in expressing our solidarity with our Nepali community members following the recent floods and landslides.

Specifically, to our Nepali friends and those with family and friends affected by this tragedy, we see you and stand in solidarity with you during this heartbreaking and anxious time. Please know that we are here to support you.

To all APIDA members, please consider checking in on any colleagues, students, and community members who may be affected by this event and carrying an emotional burden right now. Extending grace and support will mean a great deal to them.

Also, please feel free to reach out to us if there are specific community initiatives, local relief efforts, or mutual aid projects supporting Nepali families that you would like us to amplify within our caucus.

Let us continue to take care of one another and hold our Nepali community close in our thoughts and actions.
