This position supports the University community through the creation and organizing of knowledge articles and development of technology training and documentation. A successful candidate will incorporate emerging instructional technologies into courses, lecture/discussion opportunities, and demonstrations that are fundamental for empowering faculty and staff to utilize technology in support of the JMU mission. This position will actively and strategically promote IT and its services to the JMU community through diverse means (print, in person, social media).
Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the ongoing understanding of IT support across the university through lectures, training sessions, knowledge articles, and social media. Analyzes current trends and best practices and provides strategic plan to streamline communication to constituents across campus and advocates for self-service features. Creates and maintains the technology training effort through courses, demonstrations, tutorials and guides.

Responsibilities include:

Coordinating knowledge and communication
Promoting IT and IT support to JMU
Creating curriculum, tutorials and guides
Delivering training to faculty and staff

Due to demand we have added three additional Intro to Zoom trainings. We wanted to make you aware of this new Intro to Zoom training session that is being done by IT Training, JMU Libraries, and 4VA. As you have probably seen, the university recently acquired licenses for all Faculty/Staff/Students to utilize Zoom. This webinar will provide an overview of Zoom and how it can be used on campus from both a Faculty perspective as well as a Staff perspective. Learn about Zoom resources on campus and who to contact with questions. Learn how to schedule, moderate, and participate in meetings using Zoom, and some specific features available in Zoom.

The new sessions will be held on 10/7, 10/29, 11/9.

Due to recent changes related to COVID-19 (https://www.jmu.edu/news/covid-19-faqs.shtml), IT Training has made the decision to move a classes to an online format beginning today.

Training will not be taking place in the JMAC4 building and instead will be taking place online via WebEx. Prior to your class time your trainer will send out the course material and a link to the WebEx training with instructions on how to access the training. We ask that you try joining at least 5 minutes prior to the start time to allow for any troubleshooting. If you experience any issues, please call IT Training.

Thank you for your patience as we work through the many issues that the spread of COVID-19 has raised. Our goal will be to continue to offer an effective training opportunity despite the challenging environment we face. If you would prefer to reschedule your class please contact us. On April 1, Q East and Q West Lots, the parking lots in front of and behind JMAC 6 on Harrison Street, will be permanently closed for the demolition of JMAC 6 and a new construction project on the site. In order to compensate for the loss of faculty/staff parking, 77 spaces in R3 Lot, the resident student parking lot located south of the Q Lots on Harrison Street, will be reallocated for faculty/staff use and designated “H Lot.” This lot will be reserved for faculty/staff only from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday. If additional parking space is needed, faculty and staff may park on levels G and 2 of the Warsaw Avenue Parking Deck.
